Oh the confusion and the clarity
Have you ever done something for so long that you get to the point where you doubt yourself at every turn? I'm having that on one of the projects I'm working on at the moment. It's one of those things that I think I know the answer, but there have been so many amendments that I've almost lost track of where I'm supposed to be or what things are supposed to look like. Over-exposure fatigue? Can I call it that? Can I give it a name? Self-doubt as a result of prolonged periods of working on the same kind of thing fatigue?
It's a good project - it's keeping me on my toes. And I'm learning a lot. This is one of the key things about freelance work, isn't it? You have to be able to learn something from a project in order to make it worthwhile. It could be anything. It might even be that you learn that you don't want to do this kind of work again (that's not me, before you presume!) or you may decide that you want to do more of this kind of work. Perhaps you're learning technicalities of writing and / or editing with certain types of material. Maybe you're working on a platform that you've never used before - or one that you have but you're discovering different aspects of it to last time.
On the other hand, maybe you're learning more general skills which aren't necessarily related to the project you're on. Perhaps you need to learn to be better time managed, or you need to organise your time more efficiently. It's possible that you're also learning when to take a break - or when to force yourself to take a break, not just for physical health, but for mental health too.
Looking at my current projects, I think I can probably say I'm learning the majority of what I've mentioned above. If you find that you aren't learning anything, then perhaps you need to look at what you're doing and decide if it's really worth it. Because, what is the point if you're not learning anything? (Money, is of course important, but money and learning combined is a brilliant combination).
On a different note, please find a photo I took on a walk the other day - it's important to get out and away from the desk as much as you can.
